Delray Earns Designation as one of Nations 100 Top Hospitals 2015
Mar 13, 2015Delray Beach, Fla. (March 13, 2015) — Delray Medical Center receives recognition as the only hospital in South Florida to make the 100 Top Hospitals® list by Truven Health AnalyticsTM in the "Large Community Hospitals" category.
Additionally, Delray Medical Center was the only hospital in Florida to be selected as a 2015 Everest Award winner, a special subset of the 100 Top Hospital winners. Delray Medical Center is one of only 17 hospitals in the nation that has simultaneously set the national benchmark for both balanced excellence in a single year as well as for the greatest improvement over five consecutive years. This award recognizes the board, executive and medical staff leaders who developed and executed the strategies that drove the hospital’s high performance. Top 100 hospitals are more likely to have systems to safeguard patients from medical errors, provide treatments proven to get results, and deliver effective care at a reasonable cost.
"It is a huge honor to make the top 100 list and be among only a few hospitals in the nation to receive the Everest Award," said Mark Bryan, hospital CEO. "These achievements are proof of our team’s dedication to providing the community with exceptional patient care."
As a leading provider of data-driven analytics and solutions to improve the cost and quality of healthcare, Truven Health Analytics evaluated Delray Medical Center, along with nearly 3,000 other short-term, acute care, nonfederal hospitals, for their overall organizational performance across 11 key analytic measures, including patient care, operational efficiency and financial stability.
The study shows that if all hospitals in the U.S. performed at the level of this year's winners:
- 126,471 additional lives could be saved
- 108,926 additional patients could be complication-free
- $1.8 billion in inpatient costs could be saved
- The average patient stay would decrease by half a day
- Episode-of-illness expense would be 2 percent lower than the peer average
"This year’s 100 Top Hospitals represent the highest national standards in hospital care and management today. They set the benchmarks for peers around the country to follow — consistently delivering outstanding quality of care, satisfaction and community value at a reasonable cost," said Jean Chenoweth, senior vice president for performance improvement and the 100 Top Hospitals program at Truven Health Analytics. "The majority of the 2015 award winners have produced year-to-year performance improvement, as well. This speaks to the consistent focus on excellence by the entire organization and the men and women who serve patients."
