Delray Medical Center Names New Medical Director of the Comprehensive Atrial Fibrillation Institute

Jun 15, 2016
Delray Beach, Fla. (June 15, 2016) –The Comprehensive Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) Institute at Delray Medical Center appoints Dr. Jeffrey Newman, thoracic and cardiac surgeon, as its new medical director.  In this role, Dr. Newman will serve as the lead clinician in charge of all aspects of patient care services.

The team at the Comprehensive AFib Institute offers those living with an irregular heart rate, who are at an increased risk for stroke or heart disease, a multidisciplinary approach that includes interventional cardiology, electrophysiology and cardiac surgery. Patients have a spectrum of innovative, minimally invasive procedure options depending on the cause of their AFib, such as the WATCHMAN Implant, percutaneous ablation and the Convergent Procedure.

“AFib is a serious and common condition that affects a large portion of the population,” said Delray Medical Center CEO Mark Bryan. “With Dr. Newman’s experience and background, we know he’s the right person to build this program and help the many individuals in our community who have been diagnosed with this disease.”

Dr. Newman has been a member of the medical staff at Delray Medical Center since 2008 specializing in cardiac and cardiothoracic surgery.  He received his medical degree from New York Medical College and completed his residency at both Mercer University School of Medicine/Medical Center of Central Georgia and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York.

“Healing hearts is what I do, and I am looking forward to leading a new program and be a part of something that will change peoples lives on a daily basis,” said Dr. Newman. “Delray Medical Center is a special hospital and the community will greatly benefit from having this program in place.”
