Dr. Brian Coleman performed the procedure at The Center for Advanced Orthopaedics at Delray Medical Center

The Center for Advanced Orthopaedics at Delray Medical Center is proud to be the home of the first partial talus replacement procedure completed in South Florida. The procedure was performed by Dr. Brian Coleman, a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon, with expertise in foot and ankle surgery, sports medicine, fracture repair/reconstruction and gait (limb movement) analysis.

The partial talus replacement surgery involves a 3D talus prosthetic implant made from titanium, and coated with a titanium nitride to improve mobility in the foot. The talus connects the lower leg and foot, and is crucial for foot and ankle mobility. Talus injuries are caused by high-impact or trauma-related accidents. If there is poor oxygenated blood flow, it can lead to the eventual death of the bone known as osteonecrosis of the talus.

Delray Medical Center is part of the Palm Beach Health Network, and The Center for Advanced Orthopaedics is located on the third floor in the new patient tower on the Delray Medical Center campus. This beautifully designed expansion features private patient rooms and some of the latest technology to provide patients with the comfort and care needed for recovery. Orthopaedic surgery patients can also enjoy the new, spacious gym, located in the tower, and staffed with physical therapists 7 days a week. Safety standards have been implemented inside the hospital, and involve key principles to maximize safety, maintain vigilance of all potential risks, create separate care pathways, and take a multi-factor approach to maintaining a safe environment for patients and visitors.
