Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center Achieves 2023 Healthgrades Cardiac Surgery Excellence Award™

Nov 10, 2022

Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center today announced that it has been recognized as a 2023 Cardiac Surgery Excellence Award™ recipient by Healthgrades, a leading marketplace connecting doctors and patients. Healthgrades Specialty Excellence Awards recognize the top 10% of hospitals across the country in 17 specialty care areas. This achievement reflects Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center’s outstanding clinical outcomes for Cardiac Surgery and distinguishes Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center as one of the nation’s leading hospitals for Cardiac Surgery.

“We have a proven track record of excellence in cardiac care, and this designation is a commitment of our entire team to make us a top hospital for cardiac care,” said Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center CEO, Teresa Urquhart. “From being the first hospital in Palm Beach County to perform open heart surgery, to this latest recognition, we are proud to continue our tradition of taking exceptional care of our patients’ hearts.”

Healthgrades evaluated patient mortality and complication rates for 31 of the most common conditions and procedures at nearly 4,500 hospitals across the country to identify the top-performing hospitals for specialty care. This year’s analysis revealed significant variation in patient outcomes between hospitals with a 2023 Healthgrades Specialty Excellence Award and hospitals that did not receive the award. From 2019-2021, patients treated at hospitals receiving the Cardiac Surgery Excellence Award™ have, on average, a 54.9% lower risk of dying than if they were treated in hospitals that did not receive the award.*

“We commend Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center for their ongoing commitment to providing high-quality care to patients undergoing Cardiac Surgery,” said Brad Bowman, MD, Chief Medical Officer and Head of Data Science at Healthgrades. “Consumers can feel confident that recipients of the 2023 Cardiac Surgery Excellence Award have demonstrated their ability to deliver consistently exceptional outcomes.”
