Hospital continues major investments to keep high-quality care and careers on the Treasure Coast

PORT ST. LUCIE, FL – April 2nd, 2026 – Just months after opening its doors, Florida Coast Medical Center is continuing to invest in advanced medical technology to better serve the Treasure Coast. The hospital has added a new state-of-the-art MRI system and built a second cardiac catheterization lab, projects representing more than $5.5 million in new investments aimed at expanding access to advanced care close to home.

While Florida Coast Medical Center opened on time last September, hospital leaders say the work to build a world-class medical center for the region was only just beginning.

“Our team worked incredibly hard to open this hospital on schedule for the community, but the opening was just the start,” said Tyler Sherrill, CEO of Florida Coast Medical Center. “We are committed to making sure patients on the Treasure Coast can receive leading-edge care close to home while also creating outstanding career opportunities for healthcare professionals who want to serve their own community. These investments show just how serious we are about building something special here.”

The hospital’s new $4 million MRI project features a Siemens 1.5 Tesla Magnetom Altea system, delivering high-resolution imaging across a wide range of specialties including orthopedic, neurological and body imaging. The advanced system includes metal-reduction software that is designed to allow physicians to safely image patients with prosthetic joints such as hip and knee replacements, as well as many patients with pacemakers and other implanted devices.

The MRI’s wide-bore, open-ended design also improves comfort for patients who experience claustrophobia, while high-definition coils allow physicians to obtain exceptionally detailed diagnostic images. In many cases, patients without implanted devices can receive same-day MRI services.

Florida Coast Medical Center has also completed construction of a second cardiac catheterization lab, representing an additional $1.5 million investment. The new lab mirrors the hospital’s original lab and features a Philips Azurion multipurpose system capable of supporting both cardiac and vascular procedures.

The expansion comes as the hospital prepares to further enhance its cardiovascular services and work toward becoming a STEMI receiving facility, allowing patients experiencing severe heart attacks to receive rapid, lifesaving treatment locally.

“These technologies strengthen our ability to care for patients across the Treasure Coast and ensure they don’t have to travel far for advanced imaging or cardiovascular procedures,” Sherrill added. “We’re proud to continue investing in the people, technology and services that will make Florida Coast Medical Center a long-term healthcare leader for this region.”

Florida Coast Medical Center opened in September 2025 and continues to expand services to meet the growing healthcare needs of the Treasure Coast community.
