Skin Cancer

Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the United States, but it is often highly treatable when caught early. However, advanced skin cancer may have spread deeper into the skin or other parts of the body, making it more difficult to treat.

Treatment of complex skin cancers usually requires the patient to see multiple specialists in different locations, which could lead to scheduling difficulties that may delay the start of treatment.

At the Center for Complex Skin Cancers offered at Good Samaritan Medical Center, we bring together a multidisciplinary team all in one location.

Skin Cancer Team

As assessing, treating and managing each patient’s cancer may involve different levels of complexity, our experienced team takes a collaborative care approach, working together to provide personalized treatment plans that are designed to provide the best possible outcomes. While your dermatologist is the primary physician in your skin cancer journey, he or she will work with other specialists to coordinate your care.

Our team includes:

  • Dermatologists
  • Oncology surgeons
  • Radiation and medical oncologists
  • Plastic surgeons
  • Microvascular head and neck surgeons
  • In-house pathologists
  • Genetic counselors

Assessment

When a skin lesion is suspected to be skin cancer, a biopsy is taken and our board-certified in-house pathologists use additional laboratory testing to determine the type of cancer, and he degree to which it has spread. We also partner with academic centers to assist with diagnostics on more complex cases.

Treatment

We offer a variety of advanced treatment options depending on the type and stage of the skin cancer. Treatment options include:

  • Complex melanoma surgery
  • Chemotherapy port placement
  • Fungating squamous and basal cell carcinomas (requiring flaps) surgery
  • Merkel cell surgery
  • IORT breast cancer therapy
  • Reconstruction and resection with intraoperative Spy Angiography

  • Access to advanced wound care
