ION Robotic Bronchoscopy Program

The ION Robotic Bronchoscopy Program brings some of the latest technology to the forefront of lung cancer care. This program represents a step forward in the diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer, solidifying the Palm Beach Health Network’s commitment to providing exceptional patient care. The program aims to revolutionize the way pulmonary conditions are diagnosed and treated. The innovative Ion robotic platform allows for enhanced precision, improved access to hard-to-reach areas of the lung, and minimally invasive procedures.

The Ion robotic platform combines advanced robotics, real-time imaging, and artificial intelligence to enable bronchoscopic procedures with exceptional accuracy and safety. With its potential to improve diagnostic yields and reduce the need for more invasive interventions, the Ion Robotic Bronchoscopy Program can have a significant impact on the lives of patients suffering from lung diseases.

This program can be found at Delray Medical Center under the guidance of pulmonologist and advanced bronchoscopist, Dr. Stephen Milan; and Good Samaritan Medical Center's on staff thoracic surgeons.

Lung Cancer Screenings

The Palm Beach Health Network offers a potentially life-saving opportunity for current and former smokers to be screened for early detection of lung cancer. The goal is to help individuals who are at high risk for lung cancer receive a diagnosis and treatment for their disease at an early stage when it is easier to treat and possibly cure.

You may be a candidate for this lung screening if you meet the following criteria:

  • Age 50-80 (or 55-77 for Medicare Part B)
  • Current smoker, or smoked within the past 15 years
  • Smoking history of at least 20 pack-years of cigarettes (pack-years = packs per day x years of smoking

What Is A Lung Cancer Screening?

Lung cancer screening looks for signs of lung cancer before you feel symptoms from the disease. Low-dose CT scan is the test now recommended to screen for lung cancer. Screening allows for earlier diagnosis and treatment, which may slow or even stop cancer from progressing. Many lung cancer deaths can be prevented by screening high-risk people every year.

Why Is Lung Cancer Screening Important?

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death among men and women in the United States. More people die of lung cancer than of colon, breast, and prostate cancers combined. It is estimated that over 221,200 people will be diagnosed with lung cancer this year. Lung cancer has traditionally been undetectable until it has reached a late, often incurable stage. With advances in technology and cancer research, there are now proven and effective ways to screen for lung cancer at its earliest stages.
